Requirements for Membership
Membership is by application and is for anyone who shares our common love of boating, and who is interested in boating education, and participating in an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie among members.
The requirements are simple:
Fill out the membership application on paper or online.
By submitting your application, you agree to contribute skills and time to further the objectives of this organization.
Write a check for your membership fee payable to Birmingham Power Squadron, pay by cash, or pay online.
The Squadron submits your application to National.
You are now a member of America’s Boating Club - Birmingham Squadron. Welcome!
We will absorb your $20 National initiation fee – you just pay $89 for a single membership.
(A single membership via the USPS National site is $109.)

Types of membership:
Multiple individuals in a household may choose to hold separate active memberships. The only requirement is at least one active member per household.
Active Member
$93 for a single membership
Minimum age: 18
Provides full membership privileges and responsibilities, including voting, holding elective or appointed office, serving on and/or chairing a committee, earning merit marks, attending and participating in meetings and social activities, taking educational courses, paying dues, receiving a copy of the monthly National magazine (The Ensign), receiving a copy of the monthly Squadron newsletter (The Bilge Chatter), and flying the USPS Ensign and Birmingham burgee.
Family Membership
$140 per household, plus $1* per additional member beyond the first two
(Active Membership + $47)
No age requirement
Individuals who reside in the same household and are in the same squadron as an active member.
These members enjoy all the rights and privileges of an active member.
* We donate $1 annually for each active member to the USPS Educational Fund.
Apprentice Member
A dependent of an active member who resides in the same household and is between 12-17 years of age.
An apprentice member is accorded all the privileges and responsibilities of family membership.
